I often feel that Naruto's appearance doesn't quite fit in with Japanese culture. Maybe he was designed that way specifically to make him stand out from the other ninjas?

Who can clearly explain which episodes are filler and which are canon?

I don't get it. Why is Naruto in the anime both incredibly strong and a total wimp compared to his rivals? What annoys me even more is that he's portrayed as a reckless and not-very-smart guy.
