If you want to get anywhere in game development you have to remember that you can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something — your gut, destiny, life, karma, God, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life. You have to live your life with integrity and not give in to peer pressure to be something you're not. Stay true to yourself, never follow someone else's path or you may learn sooner than most the hard lesson that you must always make the path for yourself. So develop your own compass, and trust it. Take risks, dare to fail, remember the first person through the fire always gets hurt. If this is your first time in game development or maybe it just feels normal to you, but in reality there is no normal there is only change, you've changed projects or this is your first one, whichever it is, it is not the norm is it? and if you make a mistake because of that have the courage to accept the fact that you are not perfect, no one is, not even big name companies, and that's OK! I urge you to do whatever you do in game development and in life for no reason other than you love it and believe in its importance. Be worthy of your advantages that you have. And read books, read them all the time… read as a matter of principle, as a matter of self-respect. But everything life has in general, Read as a nourishing staple of life. Dream big. Work hard. Think for yourself. Love everything you love, everyone you love, with all your might. The Sweetest joy in life comes only from the recognition that you're not special, because everyone is, every single person is, in their own way. I hope that if you actually learn anything from me today, that you learn and remember, The Power of the Pause. Pausing allows you to take a beat—to take a breather in your life. As everybody else is rushing around like a lunatic out there in life, I dare you to do the opposite. Remember to pause and reflect..
