My Game Design Road
Games to me are a form of expression. For many years I tried to find a place for myself in life, as many people can relate, not much actually fit. Games…mostly playing games has always been a huge part in my life, I remember as a child I used to beg for money from my parents to go to the arcades, I used to save up as much as I could, and when I thought I had enough id go to the arcade, fill a bag with coins, 20p coins at the time, and spend the whole day, from morning till night, playing all the games I took a fancy to, sometimes I used to play so long that my parents had to come looking for me, I used to always get in trouble of course, but I didn’t care, I had a passion, and I was good at it, I had a knack for being the best at a particular game only after a very short time…
When I later bought my very first computer, I would buy games and at the time, it being a DOS OS, some games couldn’t be played on my PC so I would find a way to make them work, by editing my files to make them playable,(autoexec.bat files and config.sys files) without any real training, I used to go to a computer repair shop and watch how the repairs were performed and I used to pick up things really easy.
As the years went on, this "talent" kind of faded away with the crap I can only call it, which came from school and general teenage life. Later moving on to college and finally looking for work. As many resent or otherwise, college graduates can tell you, finding a job in a chosen field of study is like buying an ice-cream and being lactose intolerant, most of the time, the jobs you were hoping for are either non-existent or in a steady decrease in need of new recently finished graduates. So I spend the remaining years trying to make ends meet in dead end jobs, my job lists are varied from restaurant waiter, to 1st line support receptionist, to 2nd line support technician, to mobile phone sales person and many, many more. Of course none of these fulfilled my thirst for creativity, adventure and excitement I was so used to as a child, until one day as I was looking for another job I stumbled upon an academy teaching the ins and outs of game creation, at the time I thought, “could I really afford another 3-4 years studying at the age of 30?”, after weighing the pros and cons I reluctantly decided to go for it.
And so here we are 3 years later a game designer , making games trying to make my mark in the business!
