In 2014, 9 year old Ruel Jefferies was working in his cousin's experimental game studio, called One Life Left. When the studio disbanded in early 2015, Ruel's cousin developed by himself, while Ruel studied the programming language Javascript. This led to Ruel creating Vita Games, another experimental game studio, in late 2015. He used the Vita name to develop a lot of web games. In January 2016, Ruel's friend Rian Anderson joined the group after he was interested in making video games. In February 2016, the name of the studio was changed to Sword Game Studios, and all the Vita web games were taken down. Since then, the studio has began to work on many private projects, the one public project being STARLIGHT, an RPG game. Jakub Johnson joined the team as a tester for games in August 2016.
