Gorillas are the largest of the primates, residing in the forests of central Africa. These gentle giants are known for their powerful build, with broad chests and shoulders, and long, muscular arms. There are two species: eastern and western gorillas, each further divided into subspecies like the mountain gorilla. Despite their imposing size, gorillas are primarily herbivorous, feeding on plants, fruits, and bamboo. They live in family groups led by a dominant male, known as a silverback, and are known for their social and peaceful nature. Sadly, all gorilla subspecies are considered endangered due to habitat loss and poaching, according to the World Wildlife Fund.
