Mair Itaka envisioned a game of dynamic storytelling, with characters being able to adapt and give real-time and realistic responses to the environment, including interactions inputted by the player.
With the help of a few colleagues, her vision became a reality in the form of a simple retro RPG; Storyshift. This incredible feat of a functioning artificial intelligence inside a game especially this early in the era of the internet shocked the world and won it nominees for multiple accolades, including game of the year from several gaming publications and conventions, and is considered one of the greatest video games ever made.
However, since the end of 2018, it seemed like as if the internet collectively agreed altogether and quietly erased the existence of the game alongside any of its digital traces, as far as terminating anyone who tried to reupload the game. Copies of Storyshift on personalized computers were also unable to be played as it required online connection to the parent server which seems to also been shut down.
We have done extensive research for years and contacting the development team yet was to no avail. Fortunately, an ex die-hard fan of Storyshift which we will keep their anonymity has recently stepped forward and gave us a lead in the form of a save file successfully recovered from their internal game storage.
While the file cannot visualize the game as a whole, we from the GameArchive team will still be working our hardest to try to restore the masterpiece the internet had taken away.
