Game Overview
Happily Ever After is a point and click adventure which draws from fairy tale and thriller elements to deliver a unique style of game. The player controls ‘Tinderella’, the princess of a castle. Her father’s kingdom has just entered a period of war which Tinderella inadvertently gets caught up in. The player doesn't initially know they are controlling Tinderella or have any clue as to who that is. Throughout the game, diary entries she had previously written can be found to reveal the circumstances that caused her to wake up in a room not knowing who or where she was.
Gameplay
The game begins with the player waking up in a room, confused as to where they are. Upon trying to leave the room they find out that they are locked inside. The player must search the room for information, or a way out. The gameplay is extremely simple early on with exploration being the main thing the player does. Collecting diary entry pages help the player to understand more about why the ended up in that room and can give clues as to where to go next. As the player progresses, the option to kill the enemies they come face to face with is given to the player. Otherwise the player can attempt to play passively and bypass them with other, stealthier, tactics. Depending on the how the player decides to play the game, passively or aggressively, determines the final outcome of the game. The plot of the game is summed up in both endings but in dramatically different ways.
Characters
Tinderella is the character that the player controls. She is the daughter of the King and Queen of the castle. She is inquisitive, smart and adventurous. The doctor, a character who is mostly observed through the pages of his journal that Tinderella finds scattered throughout the castle. He is very intelligent, compassionate and hardworking. Shadow People. These are the enemies that Tinderella see throughout the castle. The shadow effect symbolises her inability to distinguish them from ‘regular people’.
