i think you play as the nightguard in this game....
Playthrough - https://youtu.be/WSj2wcKI0UM
This game looks like it has some good potential, especially since this is a Beta, this has a lot of potential to being a fun fangame to play, the game was challenging, and the anomalies were fun to discover, please continue developing this game with the other nights, because this got a good chance!
There is a lot of potential in this game, but I have mixed feelings about this beta.
The concept is nice, I'm On Observation Duty is a game that achieves what not even the official FNaF games (except FNaF 3 to a certain degree) did - actually monitoring the cameras, so it's nice to see that type of gameplay in the form of a FNaF game.
I like the atmosphere. It's subtle and not over-the-top, just like FNaF 1. Not having multiple loud ambience sound effects is actually a great thing because it doesn't distract the player from the visuals.
I also like how you learn more and more about the environment as you replay the levels, something that I really admired about IoOD. It gives the player this feeling that after every round, they've discovered something new to add to their vocabulary of anomalies in each map.
My praises end there however. There is an absurd level of inconsistency in how visible an anomaly is. Some of them are ridiculously obvious, and some are completely unnoticeable.
The lighting and use of colored camera renders also make things a lot harder in a frustrating way. A bonus thing to mention is that the use of colors also limits colorblind people when playing the game, which is not a problem in the B/W cameras of IoOD. The static effect is also a little distracting. Keep it on a high level of transparency and without the randomization.
The reporting mechanic needs extra work as well. The categories are sometimes too vague to tell which one you're supposed to choose when you detect an anomaly (what is the 'Unknown' button for? How am I supposed to know when an anomaly falls under that category?) IoOD suffers from this issue a lot too.
The time it takes to report an anomaly is very frustrating too; I died twice while reporting an anomaly. This is pretty counter-intuitive as it overwhelms the player and forces them to get hasty which only reduces their focus and accuracy, and the result is losing the round with frustration.
And that's all of the important things that I had to talk about. There is no way this game was playtested properly, because while a lot of the things that you do or add to the game may appear as obvious or reasonable to you (you've made the game after all), you can't guarantee the same thing when it comes to players. Make use of playtesters in order to figure out what anomalies are too hard / too easy for players, or when they struggle to figure out what category an anomaly falls under, and make sure you don't give them any hints for the game.
This can be a very good game if the current problems are taken care of by the time the full release comes out. Good luck with the development!
This game is great.
