Night Audit (Backrooms Co-Op)
#horror NIGHT AUDIT
August 1st, 1996. You're filming the backyard because someone asked you to. Somebody's counting to a hundred.
The counting stops. The ground gives.
Night Audit is a first-person liminal horror game about wandering. There are no objectives, no generators to repair, no escape sequence to trigger. Every layer hides the way deeper somewhere inside it โ a patch of carpet that gives underfoot, a stairwell behind the parked cars, a drain at the bottom of a pool. Find it and you fall. There are five layers. Then it starts again, deeper, and less familiar than before.
The whole tape runs through a camcorder you never put down.
WHAT'S DOWN THERE
The yellow rooms โ open plan with no corridors, damp carpet, fluorescent hum
A parking garage that never reaches an exit
Flooded maintenance tunnels you have to swim
The poolrooms โ white tile, low sun, orange fog, water nobody has used in years
A hotel that was never open
IT HEARS YOU
Night Audit listens to your microphone. Real noise in your real room โ talking, a cough, a door closing behind you โ draws attention. There's a level meter in the corner of the screen. Watch it.
WHAT'S IN THERE WITH YOU
Three things, and none of them chase you the way you're expecting. The Custodian only moves when you aren't looking, and quietly rearranges rooms behind your back. The Attendant stands in the water and never makes a sound. Something else answers doors.
CO-OP โ 2 TO 4 PLAYERS
Host a room and share the address. Getting caught doesn't kill you: you go down and you wait, while whoever is still standing has to find the way deeper alone. When they find it, everyone comes back up with them.
DIFFICULTY
Easy โ no entities at all. Just the buildings and the quiet.
Normal โ as intended.
Medium โ harsher, but you stay on your layer.
Nightmare โ relentless, and being caught sends you back to the first layer.
Original soundtrack. Every sound in the game is synthesised at runtime. Every layer reseeds each time you go deeper.
NOTES
Windows will warn you the file is from an unknown publisher โ click More info โ Run anyway. The game is unsigned, not malicious.
Internet co-op needs port 27015 forwarded on the host's router. LAN works without setup.
Headphones strongly recommended.
