Shadows & Souls [Demo]
Update: Changed the Package for the game as advised by my professor, and fixed a small softlock that my professor stumbled into. Whoops!
As a shadow with nothing to your name but a soul, you awake in a strange room in the middle of some kind of temple. Unsure what is going on, or why you are even here, you venture off into the temple, hoping to discover something about what this place is, and anything about yourself.
This a top-downish 2D game where you explore, read dialogue, solve puzzles, and dodge projectiles! As well, you will join forces with other monsters to gain new abilities that will help you solve puzzles and venture into different corners of the temple. Will you unravel the secrets of the temple and discover who you are?
As this is a demo, there is no save system in place. So for the best experience, please complete it in one sitting. A play session should take around 15-20 minutes, depending on how well you do at certain rooms.
CONTENT WARNING
While this is not a complete experience, as it is a demo, later on there could be heavy/dark themes. As well, presently in the demo, there is a graphic sprite at the start of the experience that is important to the overall story (or will be). However, beyond that, there is nothing else graphic in this demo, so if you don't like the imagery, just hurry past and enjoy the rest of the demo!
This was my senior capstone project done for IMS 489A at Miami University of Ohio. I wish I had had more time to develop more of this game, but it had to be more of a demo's length of an experience because of unique circumstances during both of the capstone's classes. Specifically, I ended up going through two group splits during the courses, so I ended up developing this experience completely solo with only around 1 1/2-2 months of time left in the semester. Still, despite the time constraints, I'm happy with what I was able to get done. There are most likely things that could still be improved or added to make this experience better, but even if I don't update this further, I hope you enjoy playing it!
I'm primarily an artist, who likes to focus on 2D and Pixel Art, though I do have some programming knowledge in Gamemaker 2, as this project proves.
