Spook the Asylum (Prototype)
This is the prototype of Spook the Asylum, which I’m planning as a follow-up to Spook the Clinic, a game I made back in 2016. If you want to check out the original game, here’s the link: Spook the Clinic on Game Jolt
I really like this old game I made. It’s pretty simple, but it was the 7th game I ever finished, and I think it has a cool vibe. I’ve always wanted to revisit the idea and see what I could do with it now that I know more about making games.
My latest game is Sticky Paws, which you can get on Steam here: Sticky Paws on Steam. It’s pretty different from this project, but hopefully, it shows that I can actually finish games and make something fun.
What’s Spook the Asylum?
This is a 2D side-scrolling horror game. It's planned to have platforming, combat, and sneaky bits, but it’s also got a darker tone compared to my other games. The story follows a trans girl trying to survive in a spooky asylum full of weird and scary stuff. The monsters aren’t just monsters, they’re kinda like symbols of internal struggles and society being awful sometimes. It’s creepy but also meaningful, at least I hope so.
Why Post a Prototype?
I wanted to share this super early version because I want feedback, and I think it’s a good way to get people interested in the game as I work on it. This prototype is really rough, so don’t expect anything polished. There are placeholders, missing features, and probably a few bugs. Even with that, I hope you can see where I’m trying to go with this.
Why This Matters to Me
This game means a lot to me. When I made Spook the Clinic, I didn’t really know who I was yet. I didn’t even know what being trans was, but I remember putting a lot of my feelings into that game without realizing it. Now I know who I am, and I want Spook the Asylum to reflect that.
The main character’s journey is inspired by my experiences as a trans woman. Things like dealing with dysphoria and finding those moments of euphoria are a big part of the story. It’s personal, but I hope it connects with other people too, especially anyone who’s trying to figure out their identity.
Let Me Know What You Think
If you play this prototype, I’d love to hear your thoughts. This is still super early, so your feedback will help me a ton as I figure out what works and what doesn’t.
Thanks for taking a look! I can’t wait to share more as I keep working on it.
