The Path
The main idea is taken from the field of transpersonal psychology . In particular, the idea of basic perinatal matrices (BPM) by S. Grof. According to this idea, the human psyche during its intrauterine development goes through four stages, which are characterized by certain experiences during "regressive psychotherapy":
1. BPM-I:
The so-called "amniotic universe", biologically refers to the static stay of the embryo in the womb, representing for it its entire world. The content of BPM-I will be filled with a sense of lightness, serenity, peace and joy. It may also contain experiences of being free of obstacles, identifying with aquatic life forms, or being in space.
2. BPM-II:
Corresponds to the first phase of labor, that is, contractions. Regressive therapeutic experiences may include feelings of claustrophobia, fear, anxiety, resentment, anger, helplessness, betrayal, or uselessness. It is possible to identify with prisoners in dungeons or concentration camps, sinners in hell, archetypal figures associated with eternal damnation.
3. BPM-III:
Promotion through the birth canal. When regressing to this stage, there may be feelings of struggle, shock, pain, movement, and progress. The BPM-III pattern may include experiences of Titanic struggle, archetypal images of mythological and cultural heroes, encounters with fire, and so on.
4. BPM-IV:
This phase refers directly to birth and the first minutes after, the beginning of breathing. As with other matrices, regressive therapeutic experiences may contain both sensations of specific physiological and biological events, as well as sensations of various symbolic and archetypal images and other phenomena. Feelings of liberation, love, acceptance, salvation, and redemption can be interspersed with feelings of resentment, rejection, bewilderment, collapse, emotional death, defeat, and eternal damnation.
