A curious child was looking for new books at the library when they found an old-damaged book tucked away along a shelf. From its ancient pages, they learn about massive monsters who once roamed the surface. Reading further, they find that monsters are masters of the art of MAGIC, true manifestations of ones' being, of ones' will.
They see humans and monsters living in harmony, helping one another with farms, classrooms, and construction of one another homes. As the flip further, however, the humans break out into battle taking down hundreds of monsters and gathering others by a mountain side. One by one, each monster was lead up a trail into a cavern where 7 humans await the top. As the line grew thin, a collection of large monsters file near its tail, and finally their king ASGORE was the final to pass through, a magical wall forms from floor to ceiling and...
The pages in their hand run blank, not a word, image, or crumb of ink to tell of what happened to the monsters below or the humans above. Dead set on seeing how this ends, and to see what come of the king and his monsters, they prepare for their venture onto the mountain side. They ignore every danger told to them about the mountain, and the danger in seeking such powerful beasts that may not truly exist. No matter what story was told to them, they continued forth, they would not be shaken from their path, they would...
Persevere

With Tenacity will come some features not seen in Undertale, here we'll go over some you can expect:
Player's Magic:
Emery has been studying their soul along with the monsters in front of them. Learning new tricks and new ways to get an edge over their enemy. The player will be able to use some abilities that range from personal buffs to attacks that hit every monster.

Purple Bullets:
The monsters in the underground use magic and some of their attacks are overflowing with it, and Emery looks to take that opportunity. The player can convert purple bullets into "Magic" and use it to fuel their new abilities.
Climbing:
From the books and knowhow they've gained from the surface, they can tell when climbing something is a good idea. The player will be able to climb any dry vines or ropes that are laying around.
Author's Sense:
Never one to turn their nose away from a good book, they notice that some are a bit darker than others and "found" and way to give it a better ending. The player will be... "asked" to look over a story and figure out why its ending doesn't seem to fit.
Bestiary:
As the human read about monsters, they were eager to see and learn about them whenever possible. The player will record monsters they've CHECK'd and be able to read more about them.
