Its a alternate timeline where Gaster and Alphys tired to make artificial souls in order to break the barrier faster. 3 total souls where made one of ice, one of heat, and one of nature, however the experiment went horribly wrong because the souls where to dangerous to use. The experiment got abounded by a sudden disappearance. Most of the souls where terminated, however one soul remained, the soul of embers, king asgore tried to find a volunteer but non of the mosters appeared to want. Soon after a moster in a withered cloak appeared to use the soul so moster kind would be free ones and for all. In few seconds he told sweat lies about there freedom, and in seconds the hole underground got covered in flames and ashes killing 70% of monster kind.
