Wow, GBDK? Amazing game and awesome work. Congrats man. 5/5. So, GBJam is ending, please play and rate my game GAZA o/
Love the attempt to replicate old school game design practices, beyond graphics. Don't think I understood how to play the game, but I love everything about it. Nicely done.
Good job im really imperesed that you made a real gameboy game! It really feels like an old game... but the game is really bad. But i think you already know that :)
Ali Baba And The 40 Thieves
This is a game I developed using GBDK (Game Boy Development Kit) for the Game Boy console, but of course it is supposed to be played with an emulator nowadays. Yes, it is an actual ROM.
It was developed in C using GBDK's libraries and compiler. This proved to be hard to work with, as the provided compiler is full of bugs.
In this game's design I tried to replicate classic 8-bit era gamedesign. First of all, I decided to use a widely known piece of folk fiction, namely, the story of Ali Baba And The 40 Thieves. Second, I made all game design decisions before actually reading the story. In this way, I avoided actually making something reflecting the story, as 8-bit era game design rarely had anything to do with their source material. Third, the game ended up being quite glitchy, so also in this aspect it reflects bad 8-bit era game design.
So I must say I fully achieved my objectives.
Oh, and this game was developed for #gbjam3
