Battle Paddles is based on classic Pong, but the players use a variety of weapons to attack each others’ paddles. When a paddle is hit, it shrinks, making it easier to avoid attacks but harder to hit the ball. A player scores a point when their opponent’s paddle gets too small or when their opponent lets the ball go by. Weapons, screen effects, and health packs are randomly generated as pickups, but players can only hold a limited number of weapons and can only grow their paddle to the default size with health packs. Matches go to 5 points.

Battle Paddles was almost completely developed by Peak Game Studios, a small indie game developer that's no longer in business. Tim "Dr. T" Chamillard, the former CEO of Peak Game Studios, is now a one-man indie game developer for Burning Teddy. His first Burning Teddy project is converting Battle Paddles, which was developed using Microsoft XNA Game Studio, into a Unity game.

The gameplay screenshot above is from the XNA version of the game, but we'll replace it with a Unity screen shot as soon as it's available.

You can download the prototype below. The prototype will support 2 players playing on the same PC. Controllers (vs mouse/keyboard) are strongly recommended for playing the game.

Unzip the zip file somewhere on your computer, plug in your controllers, and double-click the Battle Paddles.exe to play the game.

Have fun, and tell us any suggestions you have!
