Bombs Away
A game made entirely from scratch as an over-the-top school project (it may not look like much, but compared to everything else there it really was). The game was inspired by the simple flash games people play at school to pass time or have fun, because I wanted to make something enjoyable to play during breaks. It was kind of a small dream to know that strangers would play and enjoy something I made.
The idea for the game came from my inability to memorize controls. I didn't have the opportunity to play fighting games like Mortal Kombat until very late, so I wasn't accustomed to memorizing combos. That meant that whenever my friends wanted to play something combo-heavy or with many controls I would rapidly fall behind (I usually fall behind because I'm not that great at games). Because of this, I wanted to make something that gives you very little control over your attack. My first idea was to make something in which two players move around, leaving bombs as they move. But then I liked the name Bombs Away so I wanted to make something more explosive-related.
So here we are, explosives birthing smaller explosives that die after a few seconds. Now, I didn't want the game to be too easy, because that's no fun, especially in a two-player game. After a while, nobody dies anymore. I really like bullet hell games, so I thought, "Let me just make the spawn-rate stupid but not too stupid." That went well, but the game was boring. I know I said I wanted the player to have little control over their attack, but that's just too little. To counter that, I implemented different bombing modes, from bouncy bombs to shooting and even a sniping one.
This game is a simplified version of what I was supposed to be making because I didn't have enough time on my hands, but I've got plenty of ideas and sketches written down on some pieces of paper that have been waiting for me for quite some time. I hope I'll get around to expanding the game to what it was supposed to be. (I planned things like multiple maps, character selector with each character having a different type of bombing, etc.)
