What do you think?

That little game is A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.

First, the art is stellar. The character sprites and backgrounds are beautiful and dark. I can't tell you how much I loved the dream sequences. So very beautifully dark and twisted, very aesthetically pleasing, those sequences were a joy to look at. That was so good.

The music is cool and ambient, sets the mood really nicely.

All I can say is that I want MORE! More of this kind of pixelated detailed ambient work, more gothy darkness, just more. I'll be following your work. I spent my money well on this game!

SPOILER ALERT : Can't talk about the story without spoiling. But yeah, I love how the story is built and what it hints. Everybody is the witch and nobody is at the same time. It's how it happened in history too.

Some people really did think they had powers bestowed by evil (or not) entities, some others really did believe those people had such powers. But it could all be explained logically or it was simply coincidences.

I feel it's the case here. These people struggle to live together for different reasons and wish ill on each other. I believe what the monstruous yet very down to earth fisherman was right all along. No witch but the ones we create. His kindness to offer food to a witch finder was really touching to me. Instead of brewing hatred, he tried to share kindness. It made him very human. I liked this character a lot.

Last but not least, I can't tell how much I'm happy to see a herb healer as the suspect of being a witch. I know it sounds weird, but it was great to see what was a very common occurance during witch hunts : Herbal healers were very often targeted, while they were just practicing medicine. I'm a passionate Botanist who loves plant and medicine history so it was pure fan-service for me lol.

Really liked the game. It had surrealism, horror elements my favorites.

Really liked this game! I spent a lot of time on it trying to get all the dialogue possible. It's really cool how much depth there is in such a simple and short game. Even knowing all the possible dialogue I am still confused lol. I kind of wish there were different endings or something.

nice game!

This was a very unique experience. Not really comfortable with the torture part of it, but it was understandable for the story you were telling. Overall, you did a good job.

Daemonologie is a short, surreal horror game inspired by the Scottish witch trials.

You play the role of a witch finder investigating a small village. Speak to the locals, sift their truths from their lies, or find other ways to draw further information from them...

On the 5th morning someone will hang, make sure you know who the witch is by then!

Being from Edinburgh I knew of the North Berwick Witch Trials but it was really harrowing doing research for this project. There may be scenes representing torture that some people may find disturbing. I explored this largely through the sound design, which had a more visceral and emotional reaction for me.

For this jam I thought I'd try going back to 2D art and Game Maker for a change. Appologies if there are bugs, it's been years since I used it and a lot has changed! Just drop me a message if you encounter any and I'll see what I can do.
