Welcome to the Plane of Dargonia!
In Dargonia, you play as a lone adventurer on a quest for revenge against their parents' kidnapper, Malakai. You wander to the East, searching high and low for this unknown evil's residence in order to find him, kill him, and rescue your parents! Travel through swamps, villages, and even more as the world
randomly generates around you! Kill a variety of different enemies, including the corrupted creatures and people left behind in the wake of Malakai's minions! Will you be able to defeat Malakai, or will you die trying? Find out by playing through to the end of Dargonia!
Dargonia is a text-based Roguelike RPG using a recently created game engine called the SIDText Engine, developed by me using the Java programming language. The game features randomly generated areas, loot stats,
enemy stats, and merchants. Built mainly off of its combat system, the game doesn't include things such as room-by-room dungeon delving or complex NPC dialogue, which is explained in the story simply as your character never wanting to waste time doing that in order to reach their parents before anything bad can
happen to them. The game is noticably difficult and has no saving system, which makes dying a little more of a punishment for being bad at the game. Though it includes so many randomized elements, the game does require a fair bit of strategy and role-playing is still heavily encouraged.
As you may tell by the fact that the game is text-based and it runs within the Windows CMD Prompt, it is meant to emulate the older style mainframe roguelikes and RPGs such as Rogue, MUD, and Don Daglow's Dungeon. Though simplistic in story, I've found the gameplay to be rather addicting and am always amused by some of the randomly generated location names of the areas I found and "explored".
I hope that everybody who plays Dargonia has as much fun playing it as I did making and playtesting it. If you want to use my game engine, access to the source-code for your own game, or just want to use a similar
or the same game setting, just contact me at [email protected]. As always with these types of things, make sure to credit me in your games or other creative works if they use the things mentioned above with permission from me. Side-Note: The game can't be run from inside Gamejolt or the Gamejolt Desktop Client. It must be run from inside the actual files. The way to start it is via the Dargonia.bat file and the game is Windows only.
