*Game** Description*:
Basic Summary --
Days of Fate is a story generator told in first person perspective by a character you create. Each in game day your character will write an entry in their journal describing what happened to them that day, as well as a summary of anything that changed (mood, health, money, job, relationship status, and much more). The purpose of the game is to dynamically create a new and interesting story each playthrough, however there will be a score at the end of your story (when your character dies). The score is dependent on how happy and long a life your character lived.
Here's how the game works --
You create a character, first choosing to play as male or female, your sexual orientation, and picking your name. Then you design your characters personality by distributing points to different attributes such as bravery, charisma, intelligence, etc. The system is similar to Fallout's S.P.E.C.I.A.L attributes. You will then have a few additional options to make the beginning of your story more unique.
After you design your character your journal will open, where an initial entry will have already been written by your character. This is where the vast majority of the game will take place.
There will be other interfaces to view such as an overview of you characters mood, or general information such as your current age, financial status, and occupation.
When you are ready to begin you click a button that allows you to progress time either by one day or one week. Your character will then write about what happened to them during that time. There are thousands of different unique events and situations your character may encounter, many with multiple possible outcomes. The events that happen will be based around many things: Your characters attributes, health and happiness, financial situation, relationship status, occupation, and some random chance.
Most days your character will make their own choices, however sometimes they will enter a situation where you the player get to choose how they respond to certain events. This makes the character seem more in control of their story than the player is but still giving the player some control in trying to nudge the character in a particular direction.
There are also what I call "Decisions" which are something different than other choices you make. A "Decision" is a choice that can be made at any time by the player that will have a chance to affect your characters life. For example, you see that your character is becoming rather unhealthy, so you bring up the Decisions menu and choose "Exercise more". Based on things like your characters drive and ambition they will make choice as whether or not to start exercising more. This way you can force your character to at least consider making choices you would like to see them make (these decisions don't have to be good for them either). You can go the entire story without making a Decision, but you will have to respond to certain events that happen in your characters life.
My goal is to make it possible for every playthrough to be a different and unique story than any one before it.
Scoring --
The goal of the game is to be as happy as possible for as long as possible. Each day that passes your characters current happiness value is added to your score until the characters death. There may also be some extra points added for how much wealth your character amassed over the course of their life. However as I said before the purpose of the game is more to enjoy the story that unfolds.
When will the game be released?
I started this project in 2014, but have only worked on it every once in a while for several years. Recently (as of 1/22/21) I have recently started taking it more seriously. I still plan to finish this game, however currently there is no release date.
