This game is based on W.K. Clifford's Ethics of Belief, specifically the section called Duty of Inquiry(the name of the game). The parable is of a ship captain who is made aware his ship is no longer sea worthy, yet puts is faith in God that his ship will be fine anyway. He sends his ship out to sea and everyone on the ship dies. In the game Duty of Inquiry you are this ship captain named Neil who has just decided that the ship will set sail the following morning. The game takes place in his dreams the night before, as his subconcious journies through a surreal look at past life experiences eliminating "memory blockages", so that he can understand his decision and come around to the truth of his actions.
The game(demo) is a puzzle platformer where you control the character like a traditional platformer, but eliminate memory blockages by using the mouse cursor. Players familar with standard PC controls will feel at home :)
This was my capping(cap stone) project for my Game Studies class last semester at Marist College. It was made using Stencyl/Flixel. It's only a demo(24 levels), but I plan on working on this next semester and expanding it to at least 40 levels probably more, with different themes that continue Neil's journey of rediscovery. Also I maybe looking for someone who can do a better job with the art.
The main theme is from SMILETRON http://www.smiletron.org/. Purchase some of his awesome chiptunes/8bit music!
