Phew! This game is hard (I died many times), but is a nice platformer. About the graphics, if everything (e.g. the background) followed the same "paintbrush graphics" style as the characters, it would be a charm, not a point to be addressed. I found the way the screen moves with the character a little limiting, as sometimes you can't see where you are jumping (which contributes to the difficulty, maybe that's what you intended as with giving unlimited lives).
After defeating the first boss, my suggestion would be that the player could choose between Giana and Pixel to play the stage, although the differences between Giana and Pixel should be made greater than just the weapon each uses.
I didn't noticed or tried, but can the "bunny bombs" be used to hurt the boss too?
Keep making games, platform shooters are always nice to play (in my opinion) =D
The game is nice, but it really needs some better graphics.
Oh, and those violet killing floors are just unpredictable, I had like 5-7 tries to beat the first level and still couldn't do it.

But you definitelty need a sprite / pixel artist
I can tell you put a lot of work into this game. ^__^ I didn't get very far :P but it seemed good and well made other than the graphics obviously :P but they were still fine really.
E.V.E X is my last Game Maker game that I created, it is to be remade with Construct with better graphics, sounds, music and everything and it's title will be changed as well.
E.V.E X is an action platformer not much different then Turrican, Megaman and any jump n shoot style game with a good story, 2 different characters that you get to play as with different weapons. (Pixel has a buster, Giana has a machine gun)
