I see that this game aspires for greatness as a well-built RTS, however it has several major flaws.
There's no tutorial to teach you how to play, so the learning curve of the game is as harsh as Warcraft III. The voice acting was a bit informal sounding, but that's nothing major. I like the effects, but I couldn't zoom in/out and the controls aren't shown.
One thing I don't really like is that there's not much of a difficulty setting option available, other than CPU and CPU (Ultra), and to me that's not what I want. I don't want to range from Normal to Hard, especially as a new player. The AI use cliche rush tactics I've seen from Starcraft and Warcraft III where the AI just builds up a huge army and then just flings it at you, obliterating you unless you have a massive army to defend yourself with. This is trite and overdone, and I am dismayed that I see it here.
The interface of the game is rather difficult at times when you want to know what something is when you build it, and descriptions are at a premium.
Overall, I like the theme, the graphics, the ideas, and the variety to settings. But it falls short when you notice the lack of a tutorial, an unforgiving AI, and the lack of a pause feature. I give it a 4/5, but I think that with some tweaking, this could be a 5/5.
top glest
you sun of a birch thats world of warcraft not ho6t chicka 18 plus hot
guys look its glest from glest
Pros
You can build structures with more then 1 unit to speed it up.
You can hotkey buildings and units by pressing CTRL 1-0
it's easy to tell the difference between units and buildings.
Cons
there is no tutorial
should have the ability to just spectate from the start
there are no hotkeys for building units, upgrades, rally points ect.
it would be great if you could set rally point by right clicking when buildings are selected.
The mages are significantly better then the tech. at least for the ai early game
ally ai does not help you when you are attacked
you cannot move units by clicking on the minimap
technician does not heal automatically. and targeting is even worse since there is no temporary way to show units life on screen.
the AI could build a aerodrome and we can't
there is a tech tree option but you cannot pick anything other then magitech.
trying to change it just changes your faction to Magic
not only can you not help a mage build a wicker behemoth but if you ever stop by accidentally moving your unit. it is no longer possible to finish it.
The magic faction seems harder to learn
does not have cheats
Glest (www.glest.org) is a free 3D real-time strategy game, where you control the armies of two different factions: Tech, which is mainly composed of warriors and mechanical devices, and Magic, that prefers mages and summoned creatures in the battlefield.
Glest is not just a game, but also an engine to make strategy games, based on XML and a set of tools. A few mods already exist.
