Mara is a ghost or apparition in Slavic mythology. A figure in the lower mythology of the peoples of Europe. In European mythology, she is an evil spirit or demon that sits on one's chest at night and causes bad dreams, accompanied by suffocation under the demon's weight, which is why bad dreams themselves also came to be known as nightmares.
