awesome game! still didn't win the final boss :(
This was fantastic.
The graphics were fun and unique, and the sounds were actiony and satisfying. Every shot created some pseudo-environmental-destruction, adding to the hard action feel.
The combat was a dream. The cover system rewarded you for quick reflexes, fast thinking, and knowing and using your environment. The enemy indicators and alert tones were a nice touch, making sure that each fight was purely a shootout and not a game of I Spy. Every fight happened in a flash, so there were only a few walls standing between me and the action at any point. That worked well, because between the chain-kill bonus, the purchasable weapons, and the pure satisfaction of combat, I was constantly hunting for more, more, more stuff to shoot! And as with any roguelike, the procedural generation ensured that every room was fresh and exciting.
The only issue is that it was a little hard to look at. Windowed mode was just a bit small, while fullscreen mode was just a bit large. Moving the cursor a little would also cause a big shift in the camera, making everything that much harder to follow. Maybe if the player's view was slightly larger and the cursor didn't cause as much shift?
Overall, this game takes Hotline Miami's fast and furious combat and gives it a more forgiving, roguelike makeover. Once you get used to looking at it, it's a treat to play.
It's cool, but it burns my eyes sometimes
