Power Strife Deathmatch
What Is This?
I've always had something of an intense fixation on half-life's deathmatch mode. I arrived late to the scene, of course, having been born after the game came out and only maturing enough to understand it years later. By the time I joined into the community most of it was derelict. Just a bunch of dead servers filled with bots shooting eachother ad infinitum.
I always enjoyed the really surreal custom maps, usually oriented more towards secrets and irregular exploration using the tau cannon's multiplayer-specific charge shot recoil. A friend and I would load up a private server using Hamachi and explore the maps together, searching for hidden teleporters and little pieces of lost history.
Following along with my interest in shooter games fused with exploration platforming, back in 2021 I began work on a deathmatch shooter game called powerstrife deathmatch, featuring a large deal of donated characters from the HPS1 community (god rest its soul).
Power Strife Deathmatch
PSDM has all of the hallmarks of an old deathmatch game, with some added bonuses. You've got b-hopping, a litany of weapons with their own unique alt-fire behaviors, and as an added bonus I implemented a mario-kart style item system that gives you unique use-items, most of which can function as weapons by themselves.
Development was quietly discontinued as I started drifting away from the community the game was built for. Someday I want to come back and rework the whole thing into its own unique game so that I can release it commercially and make active maintenance and updates viable, but for the time being that's not really possible.
For what it's worth, the game is fully functional and quite fun to play. I used to get together with friends and hop on PSDM pretty frequently for a while. I dunno, maybe you can keep that tradition alive. For now, I've got other things to work on.

An extra gamemode that turns the game into FPS Smash Brothers.
A grappling hook (which is also Peeb).
In-depth movement and combat mechanics inspired by HLDM.

A default pistol that doesn't suck.
