Why hello there a fellow Unity Game designer. I have played your game and I got a few pointers as to where I see this game can be aestetically and mechanically improved.
Screen.lockCursor = true; This line of code will make the mouse stick to the center
Why doesn't the gun automatically reload when the player shoots or attempts to when there's no ammo? It is a ceaseless standard in shooters that when the gun is empty the next click causes reloading.
The Movement the player is slidy. It doesn't feel like your really walking much less than you are rolling around on rollerskates.
4, Diversify. I know I just talked about not following a standard but this time is different. Then we were talking about an integeral part of shooters now we are talking about additional mechanics. Do something unique, break the formula. You will start learning faster by breaking rules than try to follow some sort of ground work you only somewhat have in your mind. Do something crazy, I don't know have fun! Just do something that's unuasual to the shooter realm.
Hey everybody! My name is AJ, and this is the very first game I'm uploading to GameJolt.
As you can see, it's only a very rudimentary prototype for a top-down shooter. It doesn't currently have many features other than a starting level, an option to toggle gun lasers on/off, a small wave system that spawns enemies that run towards you
However, I would love to see what you guys think about my first step towards building a complete and fully-flushed out game over the next few weeks, as well as many more games in the future!
CURRENT GAME FEATURES:
(added in 0.1.3/0.1.4):
Modelled (and semi-animated) character (Animated Police Man by PlayPlusPlus)
Low light environment
Furniture and environment decor (what better place to shoot monsters than at your own workplace?)
Revamped reloading (players can no longer reload and fire at the same time)
Revamped map (much smaller corridors and spaces with furniture littered around. Players will have much more difficulty moving around).
Improved navigation meshes (enemies are less likely to run into walls and furniture blindly)
Streamlined GUI
(added in 0.1.1):
A player character placeholder (not to be confused with either a tictac or a 'Minion')
An enemy spawning system with enemies that move... really fast.
A gun (which needs reloading after a few shots
A level with walls and lane obstacles
A laser sight!
BASIC GAME CONTROLS:
KEY | ACTION
W,A,S,D | Move (Up, Left, Down, Right respectively)
Mouse Button 1 | Fire Weapon
SHIFT (Hold) | Sprint
F | Toggle Laser On/Off
I'D LOVE TO HEAR YOUR THOUGHTS AND SUGGESTIONS! So don't be afraid to send an email to [email protected]!
