While progress was made, development has been put on indefinite hold due to a loss of interest and uncertainty about its purpose moving forward.
For those curious about the work done so far, the project remains archived on GitHub, showcasing the efforts made in adapting Sonic Mania for the limitations and quirks of the Mega Drive, you wont be finding much other than slightly modified Sonic 3 and Knuckles source code, since the project was restarted several times over. While no further updates are planned, the repository is still available for reference or potential collaboration from anyone who might wish to take it further.
