Steel Tempest

Long ago, there were six elders that maintained balance and equity, each of which lived in perfect harmony. Four controlled the elements, being Fire, Water, Earth, and Air. The remaining two burdened themselves to take upon Life and Death, which was the balance between Good and Evil, Light and Darkness, Everything and Nothing, if you will. Wisdom and Knowledge originated from these six. In short, they’re Gods, or otherworldly Deities. The six of them all locked these elements within six voids, one void for each element. Why would they lock them into a void rather than harnessing this power to control the world? Obviously, they didn’t want the overwhelming power to take over one’s mind and turn on the others, so they made a pact to lock them away and guard them with their lives. Of course, they couldn’t just leave these voids out in the open, in consideration for the greedy to come and try to claim the power for themselves and attempt to take over as leader, or behold themselves as a so-called “God,” so there were security measures to be put into place. Each elder was charged with the duty to make a barrier and a gate deep underground, and then build a shrine above ground to remain in and guard with their existence. One elder per shrine, and each shrine scattered amongst the world. Of course, this also allowed an accustom for the designated elder to build their shrine wherever they so choose. Obviously, they built it according to where they felt most at peace at, surrounded by their element they held dear and protected.
