What do you think?

goodgame, honestly better than modpack,at least this don't have tooooooooo many bugs. and have many useful optimize changes, make my playing feeling much better.

Absolutely having so much fun with the mod, love all the changes you've made as well. Also MASSIVE thank you for the party size changes as well, having 14 party members is dumb but I love getting to see all the animations for all the party members. Seriously, thank you!

Hey, there seems to be a bug where Alex randomly loses his walking animation, not sure how it happens, but I think it may have something to do with the speed changer

dude thanks for this some of the garbage island content crammeed in made this a total slog before looking forward to playing this variation!

So how's the process on Downtown? Love the mod btw:)

What is The Ultimate Fix:

Ultimate Fix is a mod for a modpack called The Ulitimate Modpack for a fangame called LISA: The Pointless for an RPG Maker game called LISA: The Painful.

Goal of The Ultimate Fix:

This mod reworks the Ultimate Modpack to bring it to the quality level of vanilla experience - writing, balancing, general feel of the game, etc.

What Ultimate Fix Does:

Ultimate Fix reworks and expands almost every element of the game:

  • Narrative - ALL dialogues were reformatted and rewritten not only to remove grammar errors and bad writing, but also be more consistent with the other story elements and the world, and provide much more pleasant reading experience.

No more walls of text, no more tonal whiplash.

  • Combat - combat was severely rehauled, it was heavily expanded with new and reworked skills for EVERY party member, new and reworked state system and many more other improvements.

  • Level Design - many UMP locations had questionable design choices, like putting tens of fights with non-challenging opponents that just drag out time, or just being very long and empty.

The Ultimate Fix reworks all of these locations by shortening them, repopulating with interesting and challenging combat encounters, better loot, etc.

  • Progression - FORGET HOW UMP DID THINGS - many elements of world progression have been reworked to provide experience that is oriented towards exploring without the need to rely on guides.

In UMP there are A LOT of elements that get blocked by you simply exploring the game. For example, killing superbosses on Garbage Island locks you out of sparing Roland, or exploring Salt Basin area in Downtown progresses internal Salt Threshold, skipping a lot of world events.

Ultimate Fix restructured many world progression systems to make sure that player won't accidentally activate something that will lock him out of interesting content.

Play the game, explore, rely on common sense and basic logic - and you won't get locked out of party members and events!

Simple QoL features:

  • Fixed random crashing in combat bug - one of the most mysterious and persistent issues of UMP that occurred when playing with basic launcher - NOW FIXED!

Now you can forget about crashing altogether!

  • Cliff protection - now EVERY cliff has been protected from falling!

Yes, you will never suddenly fall off a cliff after moving into other location.

Even better - you will never need to care about cliffs being around at all!

Now Alex will just stop at every lethal cliff, while all non-lethal drops for secret locations are untouched (although sometime they'll require you to press action button to confirm the decision to jump).

  • Saving - while the mod is built upon the "hard" mode with "limited" saves the saving system was reworked:

Not only Old Crows will provide a single-use save, but also EVERY significant event like a hard fight, long cutscene, recruiting a party member or sometimes even entering a new location will trigger a save screen.

You will be able to play this mod without worrying about losing time and explore it at your leisure.

  • Active party size - now you can SET your active party size to WHATEVER NUMBER you want at ANY point in the game (option is accessible by interacting with any gang sign)!

DO NOTE: That progressive ally-buffing and SELF-buffing skills only work for the first 6 party member slots (meaning if you set >6 party size, make sure to put characters like Chip the Fishman, "Big Swig" Keeth and Salt Crab in first 6 slots).

  • Items - reworked many consumables' effects.

From cigarettes, to cola, to alcohol, item economy is very different from vanilla with new effects, rebalanced effects, and other changes.

Also, now consuming food won't close the menu!

  • Starting the new game is now way faster than in the UMP - long animations and visuals of television were removed.

  • Font changing functionality - change the size of text font to adjust it for your sensitivity.

  • Many, many, MANY more various small and large features - ALL waiting for you to experience them!

Party members:

  • Reworked ALL party members - EVERY party member of the game received gameplay overhaul - I have rebalanced ALL skills and expanded/reworked ALL skillsets.

  • Every party members has their own specific battle approaches, synergies with other party members, and sometimes even various battle tactics!

  • Removed party members dying in Game Dinner and after Arnold's cliff encounters!

  • Removed nonsensical party members conflicts - now you can recruit them all and use whatever composition you desire! Garbage Island party members will still have issues with recruiting each other, but you will be able to convince them, while Deserts and Downtown party members won't care at all (will no longer throw tantrums about new hires).

  • Recruited party members are automatically leveled up to Alex's level - this is to remove the need to worry about getting party members first and experiencing the content later. After recruitment they will level normally.

  • NOTE: Removed several party members from the game:

Anaconda (because it's not really logical to recruit him AND he has a lot of interactions with the world which I had to cut out for my convenience).

And Ham (haven't been able to come up with meaningful combat style for him, so I demoted him to item status).

Combat:

  • Expanded skillsets for every character.

  • Basic skills - now every player character has a set of basic defensive skills, available at every level, designated to Defense skill category:

    • Defend - basic damage reducing action.

    • Dodge - gives evasion from all attacks for 1 turn (same for EVERY playable character).

    • Heal wounds - a 0-cost self-heal that removes burning and bleed and recovers 40% of health in span of 2 turns, disabling the character for the process (a risk-reward type of action). Has cooldown of several turns, too.

    • Revive - a 0-cost action that revives a chosen ally with 5% health and Fallen state, making him disabled and vulnerable for several turns. Has cooldown of several turns.

These basic defensive options are a safety net for characters - they allow dodging dangerous moves that enemies set up, and get out of hard situations if there are no better options available.

0-cost healing and reviving may seem attractive, but remember that it comes with drawbacks and using specialized skills or items for recovery purposes is way more effective.

  • Expanded states system - states were heavily overhauled, receiving massive reworks and additions:

    • General approach - control over randomness.

Instead of skills having chances to apply states they apply them 100%, BUT those states have been expanded into State Chains.

    • State chains are states that are linked to each other, where lower tier state is applied normally, while higher tier states require lower tier states to be active.

For example, instead of having a 30% chance for a skill to apply Stun, the skill will 100% apply Off Guard on first use, then 100% Disoriented on second use, replacing Off Guard (if Off Guard is active), then 100% Stun on third use, replacing Disoriented.

Every control state (one that disables enemy completely) requires getting through several lesser states (which in their turn apply various debuffs), making player work to earn disabling enemy, while also making that process controllable for the player, not having to rely on rng for success.

    • Same with buffing skills - many new buffs were added and old ones were reworked into state chains.

For example, Darry can apply Cheered Up to increase ally damage in combat - applying Cheered Up on same target will replace it with improved version, giving better effects, up to 2 "upgrades".

    • Damage Over Time states were also reworked into State Chains:

Burning, Bleeding and Poison were all reworked into 3 tier structure, where lower tiers deal less damage per turn, but last longer, while high tiers deal more damage, but end quickly - requiring player to apply DoTs again.

This kind of approach makes DoT oriented playstyle as action filled as direct damage playstyle - player has to constantly apply, upgrade and reapply DoTs to maximize their effect.

    • State Descriptions were improved - in combat they provide clear and direct information about the effects of the state, while outside of combat a special in-game Ultimate State Manual have been added - an item that provides explanation for new state system and rich details about all new and reworked states - from effects, to state chains it takes part in, to duration.

  • Improved enemies - fixed many enemy skills being unable to miss (and get dodged).

  • Improved enemy encounters - changed combat music of many encounters, polished dialogues inside encounters.

  • Added a balancing system that improves the challenge depending on the amount of party members in player's group (for example, many encounters will have additional enemies).

Reworked Infinity Folds System:

  • In vanilla UMP folds were based on kills and were unavoidable. That system discouraged player from fighting enemies if he wanted to achieve best ending.

  • In Ultimate Fix folds work in a more controlled way - killing enemies gives ACCESS to fold events, while fold events give player choices to either accept, or reject folds.

  • Accepting folds gives various advantages to the player (easier encounter variations, stats and skills), while rejecting punishes (slight stat decreases), but keeps game at most challenging state (hardest encounter variations) and best possible route story-wise.

  • Every fold out of 3 existing in the game can be accepted or rejected.

  • This means that you can now fully experience every fold event AND decide whether Alex will succumb to the ruinous power of Franchise or survive.

DO NOTE that you can only reject 3rd fold if you rejected previous folds!

IMPORTANT INFO:

  • START NEW GAME - old saves will, obviously, have a lot of issues on the heavily reworked game.

  • This mod is made for Alex's campaign - because of that other campaigns were disabled. If you want to experience them, then just play regular UMP!

  • I did not rework 3rd folder route - this is both for personal preference (don't really care about it) and for practical reasons (would take even more time to finish the mod).

  • The mod is made for the completionist playstyle (NOT achievement hunter playstyle) - for the players who aim at getting all party members and the best ending. Most "moral" and "good" route, 0 folder route, is the most worked on and developed.

INSTALLATION:

  • Very simple!

  • First you need to download and install The Ultimate Modpack from the official UMP Gamejolt page.

  • Then you need to download The Ultimate Fix and unpack it.

  • Copy Data, Graphics and Audio folders in the unpacked Ultimate Fix folder.

  • Paste them into Ultimate Modpack folder - choose "replace" for any conflict.

That's it!

  • You can check the Readme file for details about launchers.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:

Since I have started to seriously work on Downtown, the area itself becomes "Under Construction" - there going to be a lot of bugs of various caliber.

I advise to wait playing it until it's officially completed.
