I played your game and here is my feedback:
First the game looks really interesting and the graphics while simple, it reminded me of games I used to play when I was young back in the day (Full Throttle comes to mind as one). Quite nostalgic.
There are a few things that I have come across that are a bit out of place first the different ways you convey the same message for example:

I'd keep it consistent, either the first method to convey the message when combining two things or the second. It is weird using both.
Second thing is sometimes it takes a long time for the dialogue to move on. Sometimes I click and wait like 2-3 seconds until the next dialogue appears. Perhaps at some points it is intentional, but I'd say only specific plot points would it be needed, other than, give the player the ability to speed up things.
The story is nice and looks interesting. The clues are logical, it didn't feel out of the ordinary.
At times I felt there was no need to know Layne's thoughts as it didn't add a lot to the table.
I'd recommend one thing, is that don't make combinations specific. Like if you are combining X + Y to get Z clue. Make it that combining Y + X gives the same result or it would get frustrating fast.
I really liked the music and the sound effects, it matched the scene/situation.
All in all, it was fun playing the game and I wanted to know what is up with the Tomes. I guess with polish and dedication this could be quite an adventure game :) Good luck and good work ^_^
Thank you both for your reviews!
The whole atmosphere created by the narrative, setting and art style made the game really nostalgic. There could be a few tweaks done here and there for the art in terms of the character models, but it's not really a problem. I think the way of deducing the evidence to get a solution was pretty clever.
Nice job!
Cool little point and click adventure. The graphics were nostalgic of older point and click adventures, and the narrative was well written and interesting. The music sounded a little generic, but was chill and gave the game a nice atmosphere.
Overall 4/5. Keep up the great work.
Tomes: Layne's Discovery, is a relatively short (took beta testers between 45 minutes and 2 hours) and story-driven game that revolves around a young man with a litany of personal problems. Through investigations and a fair amount of seeing his way through internal crises, Layne eventually stumbles upon the Tomes, and a new mystery begins.
