You know I had to do it.

This is a great game and I would 100% recommend playing for anyone who is on the verge.

The amount of reading in the manual is insane. But necessary to learn but still, darn!

Unconventional Warfare is a tactical shooter where you lead cute soldiers to safety from a never ending war. Recruit & manage your squad members from different backgrounds, make hard decisions and fight for your lives.

There are three core mechanics in Unconventional Warfare :

  • Combat - Give orders to your squad and test your tactical skills.

  • Camp/March - March through the world, set up a camp to rest & recover.

  • Story - Meet & recruit new characters. Unfold the unconventional story your squad and you are in.

Combat

In Unconventional Warfare, you will be leading your squad through countless fights. Your squad's survival depends on your tactical decisions. A fusion of real-time and turn based combat allows you to assess the battlefield, give orders and execute rapid action. Pauseable battles give you the time to execute complex tactics, while still facing threats like dodging enemy grenades for a tense and realistic combat experience.

In UW, the combat is centered around good positioning and flanking your enemies. Careless strategies such as stacking your units behind a single piece of cover and trading shots with enemies in cover will just waste ammo or even get your soldiers killed. However, tactical use of cover and flanking maneuvers will see your foes quickly thwarted. Although brute force methods like destroying the enemies’ cover with explosives is also an option. Flanking will also be something you will have to look out for from enemies. Enemy soldiers have various levels of training depending on their origin and better trained enemies will more aggressively flank you. You will be able to tell the quality of the enemies’ training level by the uniform they are wearing.

Flanking is not the sole tool available in your tactical arsenal. Both enemies and allies have morale, which is degraded by suppressive fire. So, when you target an enemy and miss your shots, your bullets are still having an effect on them. You can also change the stance of your soldiers, with each stance providing pros & cons such as changing the soldier's profile, aim & movement speed.

If you’re caught in a stalemate with the enemy, use your tank to push through their lines! Tanks will be vital weapons in your battles, as they devastate infantry units as well as your most effective tool in combating enemy tanks. If your tank is destroyed, you can still combat enemy armor with explosives and armor piercing bullets. You could also just capture abandoned or destroyed enemy tanks, repair and use them for yourself!

Camping

animated_gif-source_10.gif

After a long march or a tough fight, you may want to set up a camp and rest up your squad. When camping you can do typical things such as eat to reduce hunger and sleep to reduce fatigue, but also more complex activities such as maintain your weapons, repair vehicles, target practice and even transfuse blood. But watch out, enemies can raid your camp at any time, so dig trenches and build defences before stretching your feet!

Marching

animated_gif-source_14.gif

Explore the labyrinthine country that is the warring land of Andarushia. Every road a new peril, every trail a different risk. You dictate how you traverse the landscape and the dangers it throws at you.

You can customize your squad into specialized roles to increase their effectiveness. You aren’t locked into your class selections, meaning you can change your abilities at any time, providing you have enough XP from your battles. This means that you can tailor your squad’s skills for each individual battle.

image.png

You will need to make hard choices. You get to decide who eats how much. Hunger and fatigue will lower the effectiveness of your squad, but supplies are limited.

Story

image.png

In 1925, decades of instability and corruption crumbled the once-strong foundations of Andarushia, plunging the nation into a turbulent civil war. The world turned a blind eye, ignoring the escalating atrocities, and so did you. That is, until your military plane crashed into the fiery plains of a country out for blood. Now trapped in hostile territory, you must apply your extensive military knowledge to not only survive, but lead a small band of inexperienced survivors to safety.

Andarushia as a land has become a twisted shadow of its former self, and within its borders lie unorthodox companions, unusual villains and the unfolding dark pasts of our heroes.
