Hey everybody! For anybody who wants to play UnityBlocks in the future will not be able to play the newest updates in the future. I have many reasons for this and good ones.
Reason 1: Compiling for Mac and Linux takes more time to compile and upload them to GameJolt.
Explaination: I want to release my game once I have finished adding features, patching bugs and polishing it, as quickly as possible. However, my main target platform is Windows. I do not dislike Linux or Mac, however Unity takes a much longer time to compile them and it takes even more time to upload them to GameJolt as the file size differs from Windows versions a lot.
Reason 2: Unity crashes more when compiling for multiple platforms.
Explaination: Whenever I switch between platforms for compiling, Unity HAS to reimport, recompile and all that crap to compile everything for that platform. Like I said for reason 1, it takes more time. But, I am also risking Unity of crashing while switching between platforms, wasting even more time trying to push the update out the door.
Reason 3: There are just some things that Mac and Linux can’t handle that Windows can.
Explaination: When my friend tested UnityBlocks on Mac and Linux, both of the versions either crashed after a few minutes or froze completely. I felt like that Mac and Linux, even with amazing specs, can’t seem to handle UnityBlocks as Windows can.
Reason 4: External programs are not supported for Mac and Linux.
Explaination: I want to feature of installing the game and having a launcher rather then having the game in a folder. I get to do many things that with just the game with its data in a folder just doesn’t do.
Sorry! For any Mac and Linux users that were instrested in playing and enjoying the game in its Open Alpha phase. However! I will return to supporting Mac and Linux when UnityBlocks change its phase from Open Alpha to Beta. This is just temporary!
