2/15/2025 Devlog: Reincorporating Ideas Once Bygone

That's the main thing for today's devlog, folks. Other than that, here's this neat soundtrack album cover I made, featuring a character you'll meet in-game, Atlas the bard!

The Ideas Once Bygone

If anyone who remembers my old fangames, which is probably almost everyone viewing this, then they probably know what's going on here. If not, and for those few people lacking remembrance or acknowledgement of my old fangames, well, today's the day you somewhat learn! This devlog will go over a good amount of prior ideas from my fangames, as well as some other, more miscellaneous content.

Without further ado, let's begin, shall we?

Idea I: The Sentinels, or Elementals

This idea originates from Skylanders: Slayers, my last fangame, which featured H&S and roguelike/roguelite aspects. But we ain't here to talk about those elements, were here to talk about the idea of the Sentinels, a group of mystical, power people who watch over the lands. In this game, however, they go by the Elementals.

The Elementals of Hinterhof are an ancient, highly revered group of arthropods who have watched over the many realms for centuries. They are immortal, and wield the powers of their respective element.

(There are nine elements in this game — Earth, Water, Fire, Ice, Wind, Thunder, Light, Shadow, and Normal. However, Normal doesn't get an Elemental. Therefore, there are eight Elementals.)

Here's one of the Elementals — Cynthia, the Shadow Archmage.

Cynthia Luna is a Luna Moth (hence her surname) who wields the element of Shadow, an element typically associated with malignance, and weeves it into a power of good. Old Hinterhof legends say she's the being responsible for the shining light of the moon at night, which allows for the bugs down in Hinterhof's realms to navigate and find safety in the darkness. "How's that possible," I hear you say? Well, Hinterhof legends also say that her staff, the Lunar Caduceus, is able to control the moon, and make it shine as dim or bright as possible at night. However, alchemists are hesitant if Cynthia is also responsible for the moon's orbit via her staff.

There are other Elementals, but their lore and such is still in the making currently. Other than that, next up is...

Idea II: Choosable Classes

This idea originates from Angry Birds Epic 2, a once long-running fanmade sequel to Angry Birds Epic. Like this game, Epic 2 was an RPG, albeit a turn-based RPG rather than a H&S like this one. Epic 2 was also planned to have a variety of classes for each of the playable birds and pigs, yet that idea was never acheived... But, then again, I was lazy back then. However, now I am able to take time out of my day to create unique classes, for it may be easier now that I have the assistance of Turbowarp!

Currently, there are four playable classes planned — the Knight, Mage, Paladin, and Ranger. Each class has unique abilities and playstyles, and each is based on one or more of six attributes — damage, magic power, recharge, health, defense, and speed. In addition to classes, there are six playable species — Isopods, Ants, Moths, Butterflies, Bees, and Spiders. The species you choose also affects your stats, depending on what attributes they're based on. For example, Isopods would have extra defense yet slightly less speed, Ants get extra damage, and Spiders get extra speed. Additionally, each species has one unique move, as seen below.

  • Isopods are able to "tuck and roll" — where they curl up into an invulnerable ball and roll about

  • Ants are biologically equipped with their large mandibles — which they can use to ram into, pick up, and yeet enemies with

  • Moths, Butterflies, and Bees have wings — so they can fly, albeit only for a limited time, because this is a video game I guess

  • In addition to flight, Bees can also produce honey — which they can use in battle to make a field of sweet slug that slows down enemies within the substance

  • Spiders can make webs, which they can use to temporarily trap unlucky enemies who stumble upon them

Note that in future updates, ones taking place after v1.0.0, new classes and species might be added. And, for your information, you will also be able to choose an element for your heroic lil' bugger. Anyways, next up is...

Idea III: M U L T I P L A Y E R

1000020062.jpg

That's right, baby! No more JUST singleplayer, no more loneliness, just two or more buggers and a battalion of malignant bastards!

This idea, although never announced, originates from Skylanders: Slayers and an unannounced Castle Crashers fangame I wanted to make. It originates from Slayers because of the multiplayer option in the Skylanders games after Skylanders: Giants, and also because Skylanders: Last Stand (another Skylanders fangame I'm working on) also has planned multiplayer. It originates from the unannounced Castle Crashers fangame because... Well... WHO WANTS TO PLAY CASTLE CRASHERS ALONE, HUH?

Anyways, the multiplayer in this game will be 2–4 players — like Castle Crashers. Unlike CC, however, there is no auto-potion for multiplayer... Mwah hahahahaha! Nah, I wouldn't do that to you all. I'm not heartless, and there will be an auto-potion feature for multiplayer.

Anyways, time for the next part of this devlog...

The Other Stuff

The Character Creator

Bugeon Masters will feature a character creator, because how else are you gonna make yourself a character in this game, huh? Magic? The developer console? Anyways, the character creator will be the ONLY thing related to this game made using Scratch... "Why's that," I hear @‎PROUTJV specifically as well as you say? Well, because I want Scratchers to have some form of Bugeon Masters content available to them, that's why. Although, the game itself won't be releasing on Scratch.

The character creator will feature four customizable traits — class, species, gender, and element — as well as the ability to name your heroic lil' bugger. That's... Really all I have to say for the thing currently... Oh well, onto the next topic!

Garand Magus, Former Magic Slayer, Now Repurposed

Remember that one lil' wisp of a wizard from Skylanders: Slayers? Well, they're getting their own game — which was actually kind of already a plan of 'em, albeit now it's not a somewhat fangame. One day, after the cancelation of Slayers, I went back into its old Discord groupchat to uncover Garand Magus' old sprite sheet SVG. "And why's that," I hear you say? Well, to begin their lone slayer journey... Oh, wait, my thing's about to time out! Aw shucks! Tomorrow I shall continue then!

That's all for today, buggers! Until next time!

2/26/2025 Devlog: Lore and Bonus Art

Apologies for the near two week inactivity, folks. I was busy programming, making this lore, etc. But now I'm back! Also, this ain't much of a devlog, but that's okie... Right?

@FatBombStudios is a CCC+ Studio that makes games you love but don't know about!

They're the devs behind the fast paced hide and seek game Light Bearers 2: https://bit.ly/LightBearers2

We think you SHOULD know about them so complete the quest!

"Six it is then!"

The fact that 6 days was the least voted on the poll from a few days ago:

@FatBombStudios ' Light Bearers 2 is out now!

It's a fast paced hide and seek, asymmetrical multiplayer horror game!

Behold, my #BadArtChallenge participant for 2025. It's the Wizard guy from Castle Crashers, but badly arted and from memory!

If this isn't bad enough art, then I guess I'll have to break it. /ref

Behold, some badass art featuring the Thunder Elemental Ant, Raiden! This is the guy behind the storms of Hinterhof — with the aid of convection and such.
