4/4/25 - FRICKBEAR'S 3 DEVELOPMENT UPDATE


Happy Frickbear Friday! The people have decided - This week, I'll be going over the current state of the game's development and what progress has been made so far!


CURRENT PROGRESS ON THE ROSTER

I've been using this big table to keep track of what still needs to be finished for each character, with green spots indicating something that's finished. Here's how that table looks as of the writing of this article!

(NOTE: The characters here are arranged by what night they're introduced, not where they're positioned on the roster.)

As of right now, all 40 animatronics on the roster have been fully programmed in, and the vast majority of them have finished visuals as well! (You might have noticed in the header image for this article, but every character also has an updated custom night icon now :D)

When it comes to sprites, really the only thing left to finish are the jumpscares for the 10 or so characters, as well as office sprites for a certain animatronic. (This particular character is one who heavily relies on their voice lines being done first, hence why their visuals haven't been finished yet!)

Speaking of which, about two thirds of the roster have had their voice lines recorded! Those who haven't at the very least already have a VA decided, so hopefully all 40 should be fully voiced soon enough :D


PROGRESS ON OTHER STUFF

When it comes to the rest of the game's content...

Of the 11 planned minigames, 10 are already fully finished! (Originally there were only 10 minigames planned, but things changed after I impulsively added that slot machine minigame. At least it's already finished!) The 11th is partway done and just needs a couple more sprites and a lose state programmed in, so expect it to be done very soon.

The in-game shop is also finished, with 12 items now being available and fully functional! Candy Cadet's upgrades are also now all fully implemented :D I'll most likely be showing off the new shop in a later Frickbear Friday post, so I hope you all look forward to seeing that!

Because all 40 animatronics along with every item and upgrade are fully programmed in, the game is actually technically fully playable from start to end! (In fact, quite a few people have done so already thanks to the fact that playtesting has also started back up recently.) That being said, the game as a whole still isn't finished - which is what I'll get into in the next section.


WHAT'S LEFT?

From a gameplay perspective, the game could be considered done - assuming you don't mind a couple placeholder assets and also only do the most basic route possible, at least. The game is also just a couple of sprites and voice lines away from having a fully complete Custom Night. So what's the holdup?

Well, it mostly comes down to everything OUTSIDE the main nights - mainly the salvage locations, the story stuff, and the endgame / bonus content.

While the first two salvage locations are finished and the third one is most of the way there, the fourth one is still in a very rudimentary state - it may also take a while to finish considering it'll need way more unique assets compared to the first three. (If you've picked up on the pattern with the salvage locations thus far, you probably know why!)

Beyond this, there's also a bunch of extra content and stuff pertaining to the alternate story routes that needs to get done, and this is likely where the bulk of the remaining development time will be spent on. My plans for each story route are a bit ambitious, though I can't go into too much detail since, y'know, spoilers and stuff. Just know that, by my estimates, each alternate story route miiiiight be about an extra ingame night's worth of work, maybe a little less. (This also isn't getting into all the dialogue that'll need to be written for the post-night cutscenes and their variants, which will inevitably also take quite a bit of work!)


RELEASE DATE?

A lot of people have asked when the game's coming out or what percentage of it is done, and I never answer them. That's because I honestly have no idea myself!

I know that's probably a disappointing answer for a lot of people, but I genuinely don't know any better than you all do. I can confidently say most of the game is done, more than 50% of it at the very least, but I also have no idea how long the rest will take to finish, hence why I haven't announced a release date. For now the best I can say is it's ready when it's ready, and a firm release date will only be announced when the game is already complete, or at least close enough to being complete that I know it won't be delayed.

ALSO! If it's any solace, at least know that there's no way the game will be cancelled at this point - it'd be pretty stupid to when so much of it is already done! In the absolute worst case scenario where in the coming weeks I lose all motivation or gain a sudden hatred of Freddy Fazbear and all that he stands for, you can still expect to see a fully playable game released! It just might not be as fully-featured as what I'm currently planning. (I'm still very much having fun working on this game though, so this scenario is very unlikely!)


I believe that's everything for now... Apologies if the game isn't as close to release as many of you would probably like it to be, but just know that the wait will be worth it! The playtesters have been having a lot of fun with the game so far so I'm sure you all will too :D Until then, see you next Friday!

(...Oh yeah, also! For those who haven't tried it already, I highly recommend checking the April Fools game out! It's quite a bit more than a simple troll game, and it should hopefully give you all something to do until the actual game's ready :D ...Something really funny also happens if you somehow manage to S-rank all seven stages, but don't try to do so if you value your health.)

Been hard at work on bug fixes lately! Notably, control remapping has been tweaked to prevent softlocks and the game also no longer freezes after tabbing out.

I haven't been able to fix this new glitch that happens when I flip up the monitor, though...
