#5 - Updated Style, Concept Demo and New Ideas


Hallo godtfolk!

Today I have something very special to share: As you might have seen if you follow me on Twitter, I have updated pretty much all of Ballimals’ graphics and removed the pixelation filter. Now I am following the Pico-8 palette as much as possible, I downscaled all sprites from 64x64 to 32x32 and every collideable object has a black outline. I think it helps to hide the fact I can’t draw.

I am also working on some new music to hopefully replace the songs I currently have. Up until now I have been using Bosca Ceoil to make the soundtrack, but I have recently started to try out Sunvox and I think it will fit better.

The game is currently controlled by a joystick and three buttons, but most game controllers have 4 “main buttons” on the right side. Therefore, I figured I should add something for the remaining button. My idea is to add items that you can pick up and activate.
At last I have been thinking about a new respawn system. Right now the characters instantly spawns on one of four spawn points. My idea, however is that since all characters are balls they can be shot into the level again with cannons! The cannons aim will be controlled by the players, but the timing until it shoots will be set to three seconds or something.
