hey there! I thought it would be very neat to share how the game evolved into what it is currently. so yeah here it is:
-first attempt at the office!
wasn't very proud of this one since it looked way too soft colourwise and the perspective really didn't make sense.
on the left you could see someone playing the original verison of the game which I think I made around 2020? it took around 7 days to complete if I recall correctly. so yeah the time constraint was around since pretty much the very beginning.
-second attempt
now thats more like it! now I don't know if i kept the background for the hallways.
-refined version
and heres the final version! I changed the colours around because I thought they looked very dull.
you may notice it's missing the freddy poster, that is something i realized during the last hour or two of the project.
and you may also notice that its wider than the final version, the main resolution of the game was gonna be wider than the final version's (320x180 to be exact) this was changed because of there was alot of empty space along with the fact that it would take you longer to reach the door which couldve made the game harder than it currently is
-alt version
now heres a version with alternative colours.
this was made because I thought the white on the floor was kinda odd but fortunately I changed my mind
-making Freddy
now to Freddy! I changed his design to make him look more like an actual creature rather than an animatronic to add to that fear factor and i based the colours off of an older sprite i made
-Foxy and Bonnie
(I forgot to take a screenshot of Chica sorry)
so Foxy and Bonnie. I really have nothing to say about this other than the fact that foxy was kinda tricky to work with along with the fact that his sprite is kinda bad, thats because I rushed him and i'm very glad he runs to the office so the details on him are less clear
-early camera design
the camera was much different back then.
there was gonna be an image of pirates cove back then before coming up with the idea of the meter to show off foxy's current state.
the background was also much lighter which i gladly changed because the white blended in too much
-actually making the game
here you can see me playing around with the shader used to make the CRT effect that you see in-game.
at this point I havent coded the player or any A.I in just yet, i wanted to see how the game feels at first
here i have coded the player but not yet the A.I.
the game felt good currently and the CRT shader literally helped alot!
not much to say here.
and heres some boring coding stuff to close it this off!
-closing thoughts
i'm both surprised and relieved that i finished this because it meant i won the bet!
I've learnt many things too like coding a password system (which i did all by myself) and other stuff.
but the game is without some of it's flaws.
in my opinion the walls were kinda bland, couldve used some wear and cobwebs.
the final nights are pretty unbalanced I'm not gonna lie. but to be fair i couldnt do much playtesting due to the deadline approaching rapidly.
and the lack of a Phone Guy. sure this was doable for sure but I was simply lazy to write yet another function to read .JSON files (since I wanted his dialogue to be placed in a text box) so I replaced him with a simple instruction screen at the start of the game.
but yeah im kinda proud of what ive done in 3 days
I hope you all liked this short blog about the behind the scenes of developing this game.
Thank you for reading!
