A long overdue update!
Information about the overdue balance patch as well as our future projects. Be sure to click the article to see more.

Hello! I'm Moof, Vocal Nightmare's lead developer. It's been a long time, hasn't it? It's been more than a year since the original Vocal Nightmare has dropped.

Where have we been all this time? Why has the proposed balance patch not come out for over a year? Well, here's all the answer's you've been waiting for.

Cancelled VN Project, Vocal Nightmare F

I have fallen victim to the biggest fangame dev trope of all: cancelling projects not even announced. Originally, I was just going to add a balance patch to the game. However, I had bigger things in mind and was actually planning a whole expansion to the base game. This expansion would have been named Vocal Nightmare F, and would have had improved art, more deadly holograms based on the original 4 Freddy's animatronics, a custom night, and fixed bugs.

It was going to be dropped as a surprise, and lots of concepts were made for Vocal Nightmare F, but my inspiration for Vocal Nightmare has waned a bit. Although I'm glad I made it, I have realized my passions don't lie in making horror games as a game developer. While I love the FNAF franchise to death, actually making a horror game is not exactly my forte. The time it would have taken to create this expansion would have cut into my other title. This led to the eventual hiatus, and yes, cancellation of Vocal Nightmare F. I hope this doesn't disappoint any of you guys.

Lack of Inspiration

Last year, after VN was posted for the first time, I feel into a deep depression for almost all of late 2019, and I'm only now getting my footing back. This meant my inspiration for making games and content in general was really fading. I've been getting my footing, but most of my efforts have been into developing Into the Aether, SPLEE TEAM's retro RPG game. By the time I was feeling better, Vocal Nightmare was already kind of a distant memory to me. This really is no excuse for the lack of updates, but I'm simply explaining what led to this point.

What's next for SPLEE TEAM?

Currently, we are focusing on developing our 2D RPG, Into the Aether. It's a remake of an older game that you can actually play now on our GameJolt account (but you should probably wait until the remake is released). I won't really try to shill Into the Aether much here, but if you're interested, we have weekly progress updates over on our Twitter page.(https://twitter.com/SpleeTeamHQ)

We will likely not return to making fan games. However, if the opportunity ever arises, there is a possibility that we could develop another fan game. Just don't count on it. A special kind of opportunity would have to arise if we were to consider doing it again.

But wait! There's a bonus!

However, since I love all of you that supported the game, I will at least try and get the balance patch out sometime within May. This will include a completely rebalanced Cruel Night, so hardcore fans can finally play the night without being frustrated. Plus, many bugs will be fixed. I hope you enjoy it when it comes out.

Peace out, Moof.
