Colorez Votre Vie

Light-hearted and touchingColorez Votre Vie is a small and light-hearted game that highlights and has great emphasis on, love. It may seem a bit cheesy and cliché at first, but it is light on its feet and manages to pull you in with its polite and satisfying ending.

GRAPHICS 4/5
The graphics would have received a perfect score had it not been for the appearance of the enemies. They are essentially little spiky creatures that run back and forth, but their tiny legs and beady eyes seem out of place in the game world. The flashing stars look amazing.

SOUND 5/5
With minimal sound effects, consisting of a cheery sound effect when you collect colours and a superb music track, it makes more out of less. Colorez Votre Vie proves that you don’t need hundreds of sound effects to sound good.

GAMEPLAY 4/5
Almost identical to ‘The Story Of A Sleeping Child’ and ‘The Colors’, but with its own unique (and somehow indescribable) twist to make it more of its own game. It may be a bit annoying due to the lack of checkpoints or any saving whatsoever, it manages to never frustrate because of its short length and sweet nature. This also makes it relatively fun.

STORY 5/5
The game has heavy emphasis on love, and makes use of one of the most cliché storylines: the guy wants the girl. However, it twists this cliché heavily, because the game never tells you more than ‘you need to colour the night to win her heart’ and has a very satisfying ending which is equally as light as the rest of the story. It may almost seem as if there is no story, but I saw it - and what I saw was handled in a way that made the cliché seem un-cliché.

INTERFACE 4/5
Nothing. All you ever see is the game. There is no interface of any kind, but that is what adds to the game’s simplicity. It makes more from less.

OVERALL 4/5
It’s a simple and friendly way to spend roughly quarter to half an hour of your time. It isn’t long, but it’s just that little bit too short. You may not find yourself trying again after beating it, but it’s likely that I will. Codebox has produced a friendly game that both sounds and plays good. Well done - I’m keeping my eye out for your next release.
