Super Ice Cube! is my very first game here on GameJolt, and my first game really worth sharing. I kept a devlog throughout the development of this game, and thought to post it on here, in a more organized state of course. ^^ I love reading Devlogs, and I hope you do too!
Note: This game was originally intended to be built over the course of a month, but due to my own lack of self discipline, it took twice as long. That is why some weeks were compiled together, for parts of the game I forgot to log. ^^
Weeks 1-2 were spent setting up the game project. Importing placeholder sprites, creating objects, etcetera. I worked rather intermittently at the start, so not much progress was made.
Weeks 3-4 were spent actually programming! Movement was put in, gravity applied, and collisions constructed. These things too quite a while to do, again, from my lack of self-discipline.
Week 5 was when enemies were finally implemented into the game, and the HUD was finally started. Also, some placeholder sprites were replaced with proper sprites.
Week 6 was probably one of the most productive weeks. I replaced enemy placeholder sprites, made the dirt tile auto-tile, added gamepad support (which, I learned, makes any game 20% more fun!), and added BGM and SFX. Best week ever!
Week 7 is when it finally looks and feels like a decent, playable game. I updated the HUD with collectible count, created an entry/exit system for the levels, cleaned up some unused resources, and initially created this GameJolt page. (Though kept it hidden until I had the game to a fully playable point!) Also implemented most of the boss, too.
The Final Week, Week 8, was spent finishing the game! Finished the boss, fixed a few bugs, got my sister to test it… I’ve got to admit, it’s fun to watch people play my games! ^^ Also thinking if there is anything I want to add to the game, but I’m mostly preoccupied with what I’m going to make for February’s game… hmm…
Next month’s game will be up (in devlog form) a bit earlier than this one was. Probably once I get a good start on it. But who knows what the future holds! ^^
Thank you for reading, and if you haven’t already, give Super Ice Cube! a try! ^^
