This is the first in (hopefully) a series of blog posts detailing the development of Pea Soup, from initial design to a fully fledged playable title. Well that is the plan after all…
Pea Soup, the adventures of a rather evil (just look at his moustache) Victorian pea that manages to steal a mad professor’s (just look at his hair) time machine and generally causes mayhem wherever (or whenever) he goes…
I’ve been working on a title called Candil for some time now, although it has yet to move past the pen and paper stage. But it was while I was brainstorming that the idea for Pea Soup hit me like a heavy brick. Candil is a very darkly atmospheric title, borrowing heavily from Lovecraft and King with a slight nod towards the black elements in Barker’s work. Tentacles and blood abound, yet for some reason a little imp inside of me was wondering what would happen if a time travelling pea made an appearance.
Well, as you can read this could possibly ruin the atmosphere, making something that could be scary into a farce. Although people have made games like this before, I thought it would be better to seperate two - Candil remains my main project but it’ll be very intensive, Pea Soup on the other hand will be my humourous outlet. Think Adams and Pratchett…
So, well that is the idea. Whether it continues that way remains to be seen…
