So, what the heck is Cubix? I could answer that questions in several ways.
I could say Cubix is my current project, which doesn’t explain much.
I could also say that Cubix is a puzzle game, in the vein of all time classics like Tetris Attack (AKA Panel de Pon, AKA Puzzle League) or Magical Drop, probably with a hint of Klax in the mix -Yeah, I know. Klax was weeeird, but it had some really neat ideas that I haven’t seen in any other puzzle game, until know-. If Klax wasn’t obscure enough, you could say that it has a dose of Zoop in there. What is Zoop, you say? Well, the puzzle that was gonna me a revolution, and noone remembers…
So, if you know those games, you could start getting an idea. But, what if you don’t know any of those?
Well, I could say that Cubix is a match 3 puzzle game. Which is technically true, but you’d get the wrong idea. As this is BY NO MEANS, a Bejeweled kind of game. While we are at it, it’s NOT a mobile game at all. It’s going to be released for PC. Hopefully soon ;)
On a personal note, I could tell you that Cubix is my first “big” solo game. I’ve been part of the game industry for the last 4 and a half years, but this is my first endeavor not under the wing of a big company, and as such, the first time I have creative control of my work.
As I said, this is my first “big” project. I’m an avid gamejammer, and you can find some examples of my gamejam works in my gamejolt page ( http://gamejolt.com/@DrillerDev ). In fact, the current iteration of Cubix started as a gamejam entry, for both FamiliarGameJam and LowRezJam. You can find the jam version here: http://gamejolt.com/games/cubix-lowrez-edition/138355
Wait, did I say current iteration? Yes. Yes, I did. You heard (or rather, read) well. While this project started in the april jams, the actual game idea is much, MUCH older. How much, you say? Well, I created cubix while learning to program when I was in highschool. ABOUT 18 YEARS AGO. In, wait for it, Visual Basic 4. Afterwards, I made several versions as I learnt different languages and game engines (And that’s a great story for another entry). You could say that, once this is finished, the total time will be even longer that Duke Nukem Forever. Yoinks!
Now you know a lot more about Cubix than you did before, don’t you think? But there’s one more thing I wanted to comment. I plan to release a demo version in a couple of days, so stick around if you want to experience it by yourself ;)
Best Regards,
The Driller Dev
