Hello everyone!
This is the first post of this devlog for the game The Nightshift, so thank you for reading it!
I started development a while ago and I thought it would be fun to document the process.
One day, I was listening to a music album about a city and the idea of making a
game about the city lights and the night came to me. I already made a small mockup of what I want the game to look like when it’s finished (on top of this post).
I started development using Construct 2 but I shifted to Game Maker: Studio soon afterwards. I’m using Aseprite for the graphics and I’ll use Ableton to compose the soundtrack later.
The mechanics for the game are simple: You need to turn off the lights for everyone to sleep at night, and to do that you need to draw some shapes. It’s hard to explain and I need to be a little vague right now because I have two ideas of how the shapes are drawn and I need to test them both before deciding on one.
I also want the city to be livid, with people angry and happy, but that’s further away in the roadmap.
Oh and there’s also going to be cows, aliens, magic and some other funny stuff!
I hope to be releasing a playable test version soon! And until then I’ll be writing about the development. :3
