Aloha and Hello!

Aloha and Hello

Hello everyone,

As you may have noticed, I haven’t updated in a couple months. We recently had a baby and so my development was set on hold for an unknown amount of time.

However, I do believe I have reached a point where I will be able to set some time aside once again to continue development. My latest accomplishment? Fully interactive door systems!

You might be thinking to yourself, interactive door systems? That doesn’t sound very complicated at all George. To you I would say, who is George and what has he got to do with any of this?!

On a more serious note, the interactive door system has been a bit of an uphill battle for me since before I went on my baby leave. I have been working with the Dialogue asset developer to design a system that allows for an interactive holo interface which senses your presence when near and provides an image based upon whether the door is unlocked or locked. If the door is locked, the system also includes a keycode unlocking system. This allows me to implement key codes into the storyline through written logs as well as audio logs to create a more immersive experience. With the mysterious Facility being full of technological wonder and advancement, it only seems befitting for computer and security systems to also be technologically advanced. Nothing…but the best for the mysterious benefactors of this Facility.

The doors themselves are a mixture of hand made animation through Unity’s built in animation system with added door sounds which I am hopeful all will enjoy as well as be brought back to those dark days of heavy duty airlock doors for added security. This mixture also is drive via the Dialogue asset believe it or not. It turns the door into what one might consider an NPC which the player will converse with, however, from the player’s point of view, they are merely interacting with a holo interface in front of the door. Very cool stuff if I may say so myself. The holo interface itself is another nifty asset which drives home the technologically advanced feel of the facility and will be making an appearance all over the place.

I have also completed the basic design of the interactive computer system which players will use to gather information via data and audio logs which are then added to their inventory for further perusing. This computer system is also designed using the holo interace driven by the Dialogue asset for interaction. This system may change and upgrade with the launch of the UFPS 2 asset which will provide opportunity for a more advanced inventory system developed by the Dialogue asset developer. With this computer system, I wanted to provide a way for the player to feel as though they are gathering knowledge as they venture the facility, not simply by reading or hearing it, but also by collecting it in their inventory system.

As for the inventory system itself, I have yet to decide on how I want to explain it immersively, or if I will have some way ingame to add visual immersion to it.

I just wanted everyone to know I am still very much excited about this development project and still plan to be hard at work on it. I fully intend to see this game to it’s completion as my first ever developed 3D FPS Storyteller.

Been working lately on lots of 'behind-the-scenes' boring stuff that no one really cares about, so here’s a guy playing the sax for some reason.

Strange Umbrella

Hi everyone! I started to create some environment props for my new video game, here is a cozy house in the forest. I'm planning to switch from Unity to Unreal... Let's see what new challenges I have to face. Made in Blender and Substance Painter.
