Am i supposed to play neutral?

So playing as pacifist with 350+ spares and im trying to beat the mettaton i have the 15+ armour but he gives me one shot

Am i supposed to play as neutral to level up hp also? cause 20 health feels nothing

Kill vs Spares for some weapons is unbalanced, LVL18 is around 245 kills and pacifist says that 750 spares is the same as lvl 18 , Spares take more time to achieve while if you are level high you can one shot the monsters.
