I want to preface this by saying:
Please do NOT harass any people or party mentioned or shown in this post.
I also want to preface this by saying any all caps typing is not yelling unless it has an exclamation point at the end of it and I am using capitals to put emphasis on that part of the post.
It blows my mind that it took the creator of FNaFb himself saying the quiet part out loud for the mod team of the discord to realize "Oh yeah, maybe we should ban the guy that types 'kill yourself' daily in our PUBLIC DISCORD SERVER THAT SURROUNDS A GAME MADE BY CHILDREN FOR CHILDREN"
(Same guy who talked about killing me openly in the server over a reddit comment btw.)
He went unpunished for this shit up until literally yesterday (3/12/24); Wanna know how I know? The mod team only JUST NOW IMPLIMENTED A WARNING AND BAN SYSTEM. How do you run a server with 500+ people in it for multiple years and just not think to have a warning / ban system?
Now, granted: My reddit comment was both ill-informed, and I was annoyed because of the Phantom Thieves feeling like an rng disaster of a fight, and was saying most of my first thoughts on the game to try and put a dent in the impenetrable armor that surrounds it; but that's not a valid reason to talk about killing someone, and it's certainly not a valid reason to enable someone to talk about killing others.
The daily threats that go/went on in the server are only part of the reason why I don't feel safe in joining it myself, Another reason is all the devs and first games that get relentlessly shit on for not being up to the impossibly high standards set by games like Ennard's Valiant Expedition.
Like Ralsei, as an example. When FNaFb2 the Remix dropped literally everyone who typed in there and played the game shit on it, and only 1 person (to my knowledge) tried to make their criticism actually constructive. It got to the point where I made this meme to try and poke light hearted fun about the situation with one of my closest friends
and he couldn't even deny the validity of it's message. Then a literal year after he (justifiably) left the server, they CELEBRATED him getting cyberbullied off the thing in the fucking iceberg image. (They also celebrated the Stardust Speedster situation, and my death threats; but thankfully one of the mods lurks the reddit and saw me asking to be removed, and removed me from the thing.) (Thank you btw)
When I made my Phantom Bonnie video I was filled with anxiety, knowing how things made by newer devs tend to get treated by the community. I thought about just not releasing it an going back into hiding from the community and my public accounts until... I guess now. I was going to say until I felt the need to speak up, but I know I 100% wouldn't be able to keep my mouth shut knowing Sable's publicly saying what I've been saying in my friends in private for months. This isn't how devs and fucking let's players should feel before releasing something they made out of passion and love for a series of shitposts.
Sable mentioned people being proud to get 5/10 ratings in their post regarding the situation and I wholeheartedly agree with him that it's absolutely insane and ridiculous, because A) Standards for "le funne bear dong game" shouldn't be that nonsensically high, especially if it's someone's first game; and B) THAT'S A FUCKING F IN AMERICAN GRADING SYSTEMS! (Or at least it was when I was in school; Idk how it is now)
Behavior towards devs in there in general is disgusting and incredibly disrespectful. Like why are you opening the game files and checking the databases during your FIRST PLAYTHROUGH? Not to mention the predigest towards people Sivelos, Zain, and Sable and Speeps themselves. How you are going to bash and disrespect them? Zain made the game you say makes the original 3 obsolete, Sivelos made half of the assets you flip for your fangames; not to mention Siv's games are arguably on par in terms of quality with the original 3. Sable and Speeps made the other half of the assets you flip, and not to mention THE GAMES THAT BROUGHT YOU ALL TOGETHER.
(I asked for a screenshot of this this morning btw; so this is still up) The fact that this is an actual thing that was said is incredibly out of pocket, and hella disrespectful. This person has already apologized to Sable about this comment but it needs to be said that this is absolutely not how you should treat people; let alone the person who made the thing that brought you to the fucking discord server in the first place.
I said it on the reddit when Sable first brought this problem in the community up but I feel like it needs to be said again:
"I feel like if as a fandom you're starting drama with one of the people that made the thing that brought you all together then you've lost the plot."
I also said in my last post regarding this situation "I hope our community... takes this as a lesson and finally starts making the push that frankly should've happened years ago to be kinder to one another, and to make criticism constructive instead of just shitting on someone's passion project."
I still agree and stand by both of these statements, and because I agree with them, and I've been negative towards the discord for 99% of the post up until this point; I'd like to give some positive criticism.
Banning the guy who sends death threats (regardless of if they're jokes or not) is a good move and very much a step in the right direction.
It's good that moderation is getting taken seriously now and the warning / ban system is a great implementation.
The updated rules seem like they're going to make the place much kinder and safer for fans and devs alike. (It's too early to fully tell that's why I say "seem")
I'm not making this post out of any sort of malice, or in any attempt to spin a narrative that I'm innocent in the Stardust Speedster situation. I'm saying this because I genuinely want the FNaFb community as a whole to improve and become a much healthier and friendlier environment that encourages both experimentation and making something more akin to the original trilogy without being punished, cyberbullied or sent death threats for doing so.
