This mainly happens in stressful situations, during introspection, and when a relationship is getting tense, or one if those people in said relationship gets stressed over it.
It is described as being "alone with nothing but your thoughts".
On some very rare occasions it has been know to teleport people to places they find calming and stress free, or to the subspace
