Art Behind Split Mind

— English Ver. —
In this entry I’m going to talk in-depth about the style and atmosphere of the world of Split Mind. But first of all, I want to share my artistic vision from the beginning of this project (I’m The Mad Artist, if you didn’t notice).

The idea of a world inside a person’s mind, a character with a serious psychological disorder, a big narrative behind all of this… Then, the main character (our little Kief) with so many different personalities, every part of his own being fragmented for many reasons she/he can’t understand. When this project came to me I felt very motivated, a great artistic challenge appeared before me. So, I just started to ask myself… How can I represent a “corrupted” mind with a psychological disorder? How can I portray a mind with different personalities? And, if I do this kind of thing, or these other choices… Could all the players understand my vision of a split mind?

Yeah, right? So many questions. And so many answers could be the right one. Even now I’ve been looking for answers to my questions.

After so much field work, concept art studies, so many sketches and so many hours later (trust me, so many, which is no mean feat) I decided to create a bewildering atmosphere for our universe. An atmosphere with a predominance of soft and muted colors. The enemies will be shades of black and our dear protagonist Kief, who has to be the player’s point of view, and always has to easily stand out from the enemies and environment, will be white. In future entries I will talk more about our character design process and why we chose these two options, I promise.

About the style, to be honest, I don’t know how to describe it. A friend of mine told me once that we create, in a artistic way, what we know, feel and understand. You have to know that I’ve always been influenced by Studio Ghibli movies, Metroidvanias like Ori and the Blind Forest and Hollow Knight. So you can understand what is the style that unconsciously feeds into Split Mind.

Here I post some concepts about the process of Split Mind environment.

The Mad Artist.

— Spanish Ver. —

¿Verdad? Tantas preguntas. Y tantas respuestas pueden ser la correcta. Incluso ahora he estado buscando respuestas a mis preguntas.
