Hello everyone and it has been a year since I last updated y'all on this game's progress. So, to quickly address everything:
No, I'm not dead (yet)
Yes, the game's still getting worked on (Albeit slowly)
Per usual, life gets in the way, but this time in a good way as I found myself a girlfriend. Despite everything, it won't stop me from working on this game. For now on, all updates will be in bulk like this one will be as that's the best way to show off everything that got done. With that being said...
HERE COMES A NEW CHALLANGER!!!
Princess Daisy (Super Mario)
Yeah. She's here now. Daisy returns to the Heroes Collide series, this time sporting a move set referencing her many appearances in the Mario spin off games. Her sprites might be somewhat lacking in the quality department, but the mechanical part of the character works. (And that's honestly all that matters).
Daisy's home stage is Rainbow Road from Mario Kart Wii, which is up there as one of the best Rainbow Roads ever made.
Use Daisy's Super Dive special to hit below her opponents. This move comes from the Mario baseball series, where this is her signature ability when fielding
Thanos (Marvel Comics)
The Mad Titan makes his return. Armed with the Infinity Gauntlet, Thanos has come to conquer the competition (and he won't be low tier unlike in MvC2… maybe). Thanos may be big and slightly slow, but he attacks fast and has many zoning tools to keep all heroes off of him. All of Thanos' supers utilize the Infinity Stones in some capacity. I won't reveal what all of them do. That would ruin the suprise.
Yes. The funny bubble is still here.
This is the Soul Stone. This super will give you some decent health back so you can tank some more hits.
One of Thanos' Lv3 Supers, comes in the form of the Space Stone. No matter where Thanos is, this super will automatically attack from the opponent's position. The enemy can still block this though.
Khan (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders)
Remember this guy? No? I don't blame you; he is one of the most forgettable characters from Stardust Crusaders. But here's a brief summary on this guy: This guy is a barber who stupidly unsheathed the stand known as Anubis, which takes the form of a physical katana. Anubis has the ability to learn from their mistakes, allowing its user to counter their foe's moves. Khan does make a fighting game appearance in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Heritage for the Future, where according to the competitive scene for the game, they consider Khan to be the best character in the game 3rd worst character in the game (at the time of writing this). He's not bad, just out classed, that's all. Regardless of how good he is, he is incredibly fun to play, which explains why he's in the game.
One of Khan's most memorable moves was given the name "Spinny Funny" by the HftF community. While it's air hovering ability was slightly neutered, it's still a decent approach tool due to its range.
This Lv2 super Khan has was borrowed from another Anubis character in the form of Polnareff being possessed by Anubis (dubbed Black Polnareff).
Link (The Legend of Zelda)
Yes, you heard right. Link finally returns to the series after seemingly scrapped due to no CvS styled version of him available on the archive.
Link for the most part plays the same compared to his previous counterparts in MHC and MHC2. He's consistent to say at the very least
Bombs? You want it?
Link's Lv3 super is his old final smash from the Super Smash Bros. series of games (Although Toon Link and Young Link still has this as their Final Smash), the Triforce Slash. This super is as vicious and flashy as ever.
Slayer (Guilty Gear)
Finally, another Guilty Gear character joins the roster! Slayer is quite the gentlemanly of all of the wacky fighters from Guilty Gear. But don't let that deceive you, Slayer still packs quite the punch (Especially in Strive. He still gives me nightmares).
Compared to Sol and Ky, who's sprites come from the first Guilty Gear, also known as Guilty Gear: The Missing Link, Slayer's sprites come from Guilty Gear X and onwards.
Dandy Step is a vital tool to Slayer's gameplay, quickly step away from your foe and hit them with an unpredictable attack.
PILE BUNKER!
One of Slayer's Lv3s is based on his Instant Kill from Guilty Gear Xrd where he writes a haiku about your defeat. Did I mention he likes writing haikus.
Sora (Kingdom Hearts)
SURPRISE!!! Sora is now here! Hailing from the Kingdom Heart series of games and armed with the mighty Keyblade, Sora's ready to kick some heartless butt! Due to his inclusion, Twilight Town will no longer be included as an Extra Stage, but rather, becomes the home stage to Sora.
Sora's appearance in this game is based on his appearance in Kingdom Hearts II.
Sora comes equipped with 4 of his spells from KH2 and one from the original Kingdom Hearts. Blizzard, Fire, and Thunder works like it should in Kingdom Hearts II. Spend some meter to turn those spells into Blizzaga, Firaga, and Thundaga
His other spells are some of his Lv1 supers. The first one might be annoying to some of you, but it's Cure. The other one shown in the image below is Aerora. Why not Aero? In Kingdom Hearts (the first game), Aero was strictly a defense spell. It doesn't hurt enemies until it gets upgraded to Aerora. Explanation aside, using the MAX version of this spell turns Aerora into Aeroga.
Sora's other supers have him activate his various drive forms. Here's two of them:
Roy (Fire Emblem)
Our boy also makes it into the series for his first time ever. Roy hails from Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade, which story wise comes after Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade, the game that Lyn comes from.
Majority of Roy's special moves are taken from his moveset in Super Smash Bros.
Be sure to throw your counter out if you think you'll get hit. It could be enough to change the tide in battle
Be sure to check out Roy's explosive moves when the game comes out!
I don't have enough space or time to spotlight all new characters, so here's a list of characters that were also added:
Reimu Hakurei (Touhou Project)
Kusanagi (The King of Fighters)
Gato (Fatal Fury)
Stages
Desert Valley (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run)
For the most part, majority of the JoJo characters will be representing the first 3 parts of the series. In order to represent the series as a whole, I'll be adding some stages based on the other parts. This one is based off of the 7th part of the series, known as Steel Ball Run, which features an alternate timeline that still (kinda) pans out like the first three parts. Diego Brando also shows up riding his horse, Silver Bullet.
Final Destination (Super Smash Bros. Brawl)
Anyone getting nostalgic yet? Yeah, I figured adding one of the Final Destinations from Super Smash Bros. is warranted. I decided to go with Brawls for the fact that I like the music over the other versions and the background is visually stunning, even for the Wii.
Scuttle Town (Shantae series)
While Shantae most likely won't be joining the roster, I gotta at least add a stage to commemorate one of gaming's oldest indie series.
W.V.B.A Minor Circuit (Punch-Out!! series)
This boxing arena hailing from the Punch-Out!! series will give off vibes of a Pay Per View showing of a real boxing/MMA fight.
Dracula's Castle (Castlevania series)
Enter the mysterious castle of Dracula, where Dracula himself will be spectating the fight and with no Belmonts to ruin the mood. Better show off those combos before Dracula shows you what a "real" fight is.
Scarlet Forest (Deltarune)
Welcome to the Dark World, where the lovable cast of Deltarune spectate various mysterious lightners duke it out. I don't have much else to say, but did you know that Deltarune is an anagram for Undertale?
That's it for everything today. I don't know how often I'll be able to post updates about the game's progress (or be able to work on the game period) but do look forward to future updates as I want to be able to (eventually) release this game.
Thanks for reading!
