Welcome everyone, to the very first Better Brawl character showcase! For this first showcase, who better to present than the demon thief himself: Ganondorf.
In case you don't know, Ganondorf has always been a bit of a divisive Smash character. Many would've liked Ganondorf to been a original character rather than a Captain Falcon clone, and I completely agree. However, completely remaking fighters is way beyond the scope of this project. I wish to stay true to Brawl in a lot of ways, which means that in this game you can still expect Ganondorf to the same slow and heavy fighter he was in vanilla.
In vanilla Brawl, Ganondorf is considered the worst fighter in the game. Not only that, he is debatably the worst fighter in the entire Smash series. He suffers from many poor attributes, made only worse by the slower paced Brawl engine.
In Better Brawl, I did choose to speed up Ganondorf slightly. In vanilla Brawl, he would actually get slower as he continued to dash. This was changed with his dash speed being slightly higher than his initial dash speed. I also lowered his incredibly slow jumpsquat from 7 frames to 6, still being among the slowest, but a definite improvement.
The removal of many oppressive mechanics in Brawl like chain grabs and hitstun canceling have greatly improved the character. With the speeding up of the engine and increased hitlag, Ganondorf has a much better time punishing foes than he did before.
Ganondorf received many other buffs as well. Many of his attacks have had their angles adjusted to allow for Ganondorf to combo much easier. L-canceling does not return in Better Brawl, but to compensate, all of his aerials have decreased landing lag.
Overall, if you enjoyed Brawl Ganondorf, you will love him here. He has a unique playstyle, one that I myself find quite fun. I tried to stay relatively true to the design he had in vanilla, while making him much more viable. I don't think he will be a top tier, but definitely better than before.
